Julie Costa has been competing since 2006; she got into competing to start doing something else with her life besides work. Julie Costa always went to the gym, so this seemed like a healthy hobby. Costa read a lot about competing in magazines and learned about Cathy Savage, a well known coach here in MA. Julie emailed her to ask some questions then was well on her way and hasn’t looked back since – it’s a great healthy hobby and adds a lot of structure to Costa’s life.  Julie Costa interviews with Fit Universe where she talks about her training, diet, and much more!

How did you get started?

A friend of mine was a national powerlifting champion and he introduced me to strength training. I got the iron bug rather quickly and kept on training. How did you get started?

If you’re talking about fitness in general, it’s always been a part of my life in one form or another. I was a gymnast growing up and had that athletic *bug*. I’m pretty sure I still hold the pull-up record at my elementary school, lol. If you’re talking about competing, I started in 2006 completely by accident.
